Assalamualaikum...
Macam yang semua org pun tahu, (ye la ye la tak semua org tahu.isk.) Hanisah sekarang tgh posting Paediatrics! For clearer picture, yes it is a posting where you can meet lots of cute babies and toddlers. Actually newborn until 18 years old can be consider under Paediatrics. (yes i'm 22 of course lah dah tak paediatrics sgt kann.heh!)
Before i move on, let me explain some of the Paediatrics terms! it is interesting to gain new knowledge while reading rite?hik2 :p
fetal/fetus : it refers to child/babies yang dalam perut punya.
neonates : babies less than 27 days
infant : babies less than 1 year
adolescent : ala2 dah sekolah menengah? (13-18 years old)
term baby : 37-40 weeks gestation
post term baby : more than 40 weeks of gestation *some books put 41 weeks*
premature baby : less than 37 weeks gestation (this premature baby hv to put in incubator!)
Fuhhh. cukup2 dulu ok kita belajar terms. mana-mana ada silapsalah betulkan taw. nanti ada rezeki, kita belajar terms lagi okay :)
So since this is my first posting, mula2 agak kalut lah jugak nak carik bilik2 dan ward2 kanak-kanak ni ada kat mana kan. Kawan-kawan yg next nak PICU posting, here are few rooms and session you need to know.
For PICU posting, u go to the hospital. masuk lif (kalau nak exercise naik tangga pun boleh juga. Tambah kecergasan gitu. ) Press button 6. Tunggu sat. Pintu lif pun akan terbuka.
taraaa... sampai dah tingkat 6!
Usually we clerk patient in ward 6A rite. But for PICU posting, tak boleh taw.
But you can go to :
1) SCN (Special Care Nursery) : level 6, opposite tangga. yang ada pintu automatik tuh!
Usually in this nursery they placed premature babies or babies with neonatal jaundice. All babies having neonatal jaundice kena di phototherapy kan. Yup pandai! yang bawah lampu biru tu laa!
Besides that, in SCN, u can also ask the nurse to teach you how to bottlefeed the babies. (dalam logbook ada taw procedure ni.hehe) So actually we went there yesterday. Aaaa baby semua sangat kecil dan comel. Kekok laa jugak masa mula2 nak pegang and bottlefed kan mereka. Orang tak ada adik kecil dan belum ada anak memang macam tu kowt. LOL :p I should practise more! haha. Semalam bagi separuh je.heeee.tak biasa lah pegang baby yg baru berapa hari tu.

Yang comelnya, baby ni suka tidur time kita bottlefed tu. So we have to wake them up! Kalau tak, nampak gayanya berjam-jam lah kan baru boleh kosongkan botol tu.ngaaaa~ Lepas minum susu tu, kita kena urut2 belakang baby sekali sampai dia burp! *heee baby dah kenyang!* :p
Tak senang ok nak bottlefedkan baby ni rupanya. Mencabar! Tapi kalau dah hari-hari buat nanti okay kowt. Dont worry future doctors and future mothers! eheh :p

2) PICU : sebelah SCN tu ada lorong ke kiri kan. Go left, straight until the end of it. Kat hujung nanti, masuk sebelah kanan. Sampai dah! =)
Actually it is divided into few rooms!
1) PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) - Tak boleh masuk ramai-ramai taw. Put all your things dalam locker dulu.
2) HDU (High Dependency Unit) - Usually they placed chronic illness patient here. Some of them are attach to IV fluid (usually normal saline) and usually we monitor their oxygen saturation and heart rate using Pulse Oximeter!
3) Isolation room - Patients were isolated because either we can infect them (some are immunosuppressed patient) or they can infect other people.
- For girls, we have to pinned our tudung attached to the blouse/bajukurung etc. Jangan biar tudung tergantung2 terbang2. hee :p
- Roll your sleeve! (we do it because we do not want to worsen patients condition by being the source of infection)
- Wash your hand with sanitizer before and after you enter the room and have contact with patients.
- They already provide every patient with their own stethoscope. Use only that okay.
*better do before the Sister ask you to do so! *

Next room you can enter is NICU (Neonates Intensive Care Unit). Orang cakap depan labour room je. But I haven't go there lagi laa.Tak dpt nak share apa-apa cherita! :(
Oh yaa, do not miss clinics! It is interesting actually because you can observe how the doctors clerk and examine the patients. You can learn soooo many things because you will have oppotunity to see different cases. But then usually they have different type services in different days. For example, Tuesday is for growth and development, thursday etc2.
But i dont really remember that. You can go straight after the A&E and the clinic is on your left. They placed a timetable in front of the clinics. Pegi taw jgn miss that session! Sambil observe, you can ask many questions to the HO, MO or specialist. All paediatric doctors are really kind i tell u! heee :)
YOU CAN GET TO KNOW MANY THINGS & GAIN MORE KNOWLEDGE JUST BY BEING ALERT & OBSERVANT...
but the one who observe and ask, obviously gain more!
(^_^)
I'm going to miss this posting! Yes it is a bit tired but when you look at all the cute babies and children there, u will forget how tired actually you are. hee sure rindu punya nanti. Next week start in Paediatrics 6A pulak! New things to learn!
Ya Allah permudahkanlah urusanku dan rakan-rakanku agar ilmu yang kami perolehi nanti dapat memberi manfaat yang baik kepada orang lain insyaAllah. :)
Aminn :)
p/s : i hope this can provide useful information and boost semangat kawan-kawan nak posting paeds!weee! :p
